A contest on innovative experiences of economic activities of rural women in Central America was developed by the Center for Rural Development (CDR) with the Regional Unit for Technical Assistance (RUTA). The goal of the contest was to systematize successful cases that represent innovative ways of aiding rural women that resulted in social and economic benefits for them and their families. Winners were chosen in six categories; all related to gender: food security, rural finance, natural resource management, aquaculture and fishing, forestry and value chains. A publication was edited to present all winning women. The above photo is courtesy from AMEP, an association of businesswomen from Poás, Costa Rica, who make cosmetics from medicinal plants.
