The success achieved by Central American microfinance institutions (MFIs) in financial performance is reflected in diverse international performance indexes (like the MIX Market). Recently, awareness is rising that attention must also be given to their social mission of improving the quality of life for their clients. Social Performance Management (SPM) systems contribute to generating information necessary for decision-making orientated at these social results. Moreover, it visualizes the different interest groups, allowing the MFI to offer specific products for specific needs. HIVOS commissioned a study to evaluate the social performance of their MFI partners.
