Rural Sociology and Culture

Since 2007 INCAE and CATIE are offering a Master in International Agribusiness Management (M.I.A.M.). The general objective of this master program is to train environmentally and socially responsible leaders for doing sustainable business in and with the rural sector of Latin America and the Caribbean in international agri-food and forest product value chains. The objective of the annual ten-day course on Rural Sociology and Culture is to provide students with the necessary analytical and practical tools to address social and cultural opportunities and challenges related to sustainable rural business development in Latin America. It addresses topics like poverty, vulnerability, gender, migration, indigenous groups, microfinance, stakeholder analysis, qualitative research tools, and the sustainable livelihoods approach.
