Proposal for an urban national park in Costa Rica’s Greater Metropoliana Area (GAM).
The transformation of an old industrial site into a sustainable inclusive urban park is organized according to four programmatic axes: art, commerce, sports and nature. Promenading through the park, the different functions mix in order to benefit the surrounding communities on a daily basis as well as visitors from allover the country in the case of national fairs and events. The individual program ranges from sports schools to different courts of activities (such as baseball, soccer cycling and running tracks etc.), a circus school, flexible event spaces, workshops, exhibition centers, a concert venue and an amphitheatre as well as a botanical garden representing the flora of Costa Rica.
The two rivers crossing the site are occasionally blocked to create a succession of artificial lakes equipped with a biological filtration system and local small scale hydroelectric power plants.
