Gender and Fairtrade

The involvement of women in decision-making processes related to agricultural production in Central America has traditionally been very low. After realizing an assessment study in 2011 and formulating the project "Cultivating Gender Equity through Fair Tradeā€ from FLO, HIVOS and Irish Aid (which is implemented by Villalobos y Asociados and supported by the Guatemalan Coordinator of Fair Trade), A Company was asked to provide gender advisory services for promoting gender equity policies and practices in 18 Fairtrade certified small producers organizations that operate within coffee and honey value chains. The above photography is courtesy of ASOBAGRI, one of the coffee producing associations.
