Financial Services for the Rural Poor

Marije van Lidth de Jeude with the Center for Rural Development (CDR) formulated and coordinated the Innovation and Deepening of Rural Financial Services program for ICCO, with the objective to increase access to financial services for the rural and vulnerable poor of Central America that to date have not been able to deposit savings or receive loans. The pilot of this program was implemented in Occidental Guatemala with members of the microfinance associations network RED FASCO (2009-2010). Strategic elements of this program are: linking small producers organizations to financial institutions; institutional strengthening of MFIs; impact on public policy; access to financing for value chains; monitoring, evaluation and systematization.
